Scientific Output

An account of the Institute's scientific publications during the period from 2004 to 2010 is included in the annual report of the Vice-Chancellor of Innovation and Research. This information has served as the basis for the development of this section. The analysis of the competitive position of the IBMC was performed by taking into account the number of publications and citations obtained from the ISI Web of Knowledge, using the Web of Science database. Bibliometric databases enable analysis to determine productivity and the impact of researchers' publications.

Consistent with the IBMC's high level of competitiveness in attracting investment is its scientific and translational performance. As seen in the next table, researchers at the IBMC have produced an increasing number of publications over the last five years. In addition to the number of articles, the consistent rise in the impact index is also noteworthy, currently around 4.0, although there is still room for improvement.

Furthermore, the impact of the results attained by research groups at the IBMC has grown, as indicated by the number of citations, which, after a few years and the consolidation of the groups, is exhibiting growth consistent with the excellent competitive position of the IBMC's research groups. Note that this growth occurs despite the longer times to publish that results from the IBMC's strong policy to transfer scientific results as these must be protected before publication.
